L'Oree Du Bois

Nice place with good French food in a calm and cozy atmosphere. My Filé Mignon was excellent, just right. My teenage son had the meny of four dishes of his choice - he complained afterwards about too little food. The ladies were very happy with their choice of food and wine and whiskey.

Always a treat to dine at L'Oree due Bois, have tried many things and food is always tasty and fresh, great food presentation and excellent service.

My husband and I go here every year for my birthday, it has been a long standing tradition of ours. The food is absolutely delicious, always extremely fresh and well prepared - Definitely for a niche market and the pricing is on the higher end but totally worth the splurge!

French restaurant in a chalet style venue- if you're looking for a la carte, or specialty plates this is the place! Pricey-er but worth it. Approx $50 A person but SO worth the quality. Mostly local meats! If you are a gamy meat lover I would recommend this place.

Every dish we had was impeccable. Everything is made from scratch with real seasonal ingredients. Norwegian shrimp salad had wonderful fresh flavours with a tasty cream slaw. The duck was cooked to perfection, fell off the bone and skin perfectly seared and crispy. The veal cheek was tender and well seasoned. This restaurant is high quality with an affordable Table Hôte, starting at $51. The service however was extremely slow. Like snails pace. We had to ask for everything, and waited 28 minutes before we were even seen by the waiter once seated. After desert, we waited over another 30 minutes before we decided to walk to the entrance to get someone’s attention for the bill. Otherwise, excellent food

Quality of the food is fantastic and the service is friendly and amazing. Definitely recommended! Had salmon and it tasted very creamy and rich. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and fancy.Would give more stars if I could!

We really enjoyed our dinner at L'Orée du Bois. We were four people and all ordered the table d'hôte. Two of the guests found that the entrees better then the main course. The soups were good but I found there were a little watery and one of the salad was full of dressing, making it impossible to eat. The desserts were fantastic and the food in general was great.

Our family of 7 enjoyed an incredible meal on August 15...our server, Gabriel D. was very knowledgeable, caring and patient guiding us through the four course wine pairing menus. A perfect evening that'll leave your tastebuds in total amazement. This was not my first time at L'Orée du Bois and it never fails to surpass my expectations. The food quality is out of this world and if you want to add to your culinary experience, I highly recommend that you opt for the wine and food pairing. The waiter did not pressure us to order, and he explained each food and wine pairing with the utmost knowledge. I cannot say enough good things about this special place. Excellent food and excellent service. Classical old French food but made to perfection. Loved it would love to go again. Had an awesome experience. Should visit once at least . Very cozy.

Had s beautiful Anniversary dinner July/2018 with friends. The food was outstanding. Have been going there for special occasions since 1989. Never disappointed! Make a reservation.

You can’t miss this place when you are visiting Chelsea! Loved the atmosphere, food and service. Parking lot is bonus!

Lovely unpretentious place off the beaten path which doesn't make you regret either 20 minutes drive from the Parliament Hill or the price you pay. Food is fairly described on the website. Well executed French classics with some Canadian flare plus gentle but well defined chef's touch on the flavour side. E.g. curry+ginger in the soup or saffron+pistachios on creme brulee were just enough to enjoy but not to transform a classic into a Franco-Oriental/Middle Eastern fusion. Every bite was fresh, tasty and harmonious. Service was timely and friendly. One of the very few occasions where I will remember the experience and not the bill.

The location is just outside of Ottawa in Chelsea but it gives you the feel of a get away. The food and service was remarkable. The staff was friendly, patient and kind. She answered all of our questions and did so with such care. The restaurant was relaxed yet sophisticated. The meal was better than well done. Recommend all the way

Fantastic experience, service was exceptional.The food was wonderful and the courses were presented well and we didn't feel rushed. The decor and atmosphere was rustic but tasteful.

First of mine 5 star review for restaurants. Excellent excellent service. Soup and bread shows how professional they are. So far the best bread I had within Canada. It worth to come with your best suit. For the duck leg, I'd love to see more layers of flavor in the sauce, however it served with right temperature for both the food and the plate, appreciate that.

My god, what an amazing evening! The service was a very close second to the amazing food. I couldn't think of a single negative, not that I tried hard to think of one, I was too busy being in awe of the great experience.

Food is ok but coming from a familly of france will tell you its basic french cuisine portions are small and dont expect to leave with a full stomach , the place needs to be redone entirely carpet is dirty and the rest is really out dated place was neglected for a long long time and on top of that the restaurant can get noisi and the menu lacks of choice ! i would not recomend , Le pied de cochon feal more intimate and more welcoming and food is similar but better service , the l orée du bois is a place to eat and go ! cocktails drinks are not that good !! And the management could be way better i rate this place 2,5 on 5 stars , go to Le baccara food is way better and the service is a real 5 stars .

Superb food, service, ambiance, wine list.

The maple brunch was beyond amazing and we had excellent service.

One of my new favourite restaurants! Everything was so tasty, well-cooked (tender, juicy meats). My favourite dish was an appetizer that had “mushrooms in puff pastry” - it’s an explosion of flavour! And very reasonably priced too; I left very full after a 4 course meal.

Reception was not welcoming and we had to leave even though there were plenty of empty tables. But credit to the chef owner who called and wanted to find out about the experience and make it better next time. Thank you Jean Claude.

The food was amazing full of taste and divers texture. One of my favourite dishes were the duck tongue with pastry and flavourful mushrooms on the side covered by a warming sauce. On top of all the great food the waitresses/waiters are very kind and polite. In general there was great food and great service!

Just an amazing experience with a very friendly staff. Fresh and local food. Interesting that many Canadian restaurants don’t have American wines just European wines, very surprising.

Wonderful atmosohere, great service from the beginning. The crowd was slightly older and for a price of dishes the food is worth the drive out. Dishes resemble Quebec cuisine with some innovations that were all very well balanced in taste and beautifully prepared. Wine too at affordable prices and knowledgeable staff helped us pick a great pairing out. Highly recommended.

Nice place, food, and staff. I ordered flowers when I made the reservation, but didn't find anyway on the table and they didn't even say sorry we can't do that or anything. I guess my expectations for good food and fancy service didn't fit the place. However I would go again for the food.

If you are looking for a cozy atmosphere with extremely friendly, courteous staff AND amazing French cuisine, look no further! From the table d'hote to their standard menu, depending on your appetite, you will likely have difficulty choosing from all of the mouth-watering options. Lots of local and seasonal foods. Know your price points before going. You will NOT be disappointed.

Disappointed with the flavours and the 2 hours it took to get my meal. Onion purée was appalling, but my shrimp pâte was to die for. Portion size was huge and servers were excellent. Excellent selection of wine imports.Cozy atmosphere, but the food didn't live up to the hype. Hoping it was just an off night and I will be back!

I always come here for an amazing meal and especially for special occasions or a meal I’d like to impress with. The head chef is incredibly creative with the menu changing all the time, sometimes with themed days where you are served family-style. The head chef might even pop out to say hello after service! Service is always impeccable as well. I’ve never been disappointed at L’Oree du Bois and would highly recommend.

Excellent location, beautiful building. Great wine selection But extremely dated. From menu to carpet to bathrooms, all old.

The great staff paired well with the great atmosphere in the same way that the great wine paired well with the great food. My favorite was the salmon tartar, and the red wine my waiter suggested.

Wonderful atmosphere, friendly and attentive waitstaff, gourmet food and wine. Perfect fancy meal for a date night.

It was the best food I've had in a restaurant. Added bonus was that my man and I have a few allergies and they were so considerate and I wasn't needing to constantly ask the staff if there was gluten or anything else we can't eat in the meal as they would reassure us as they were setting down the courses in front of us. Also very reasonably priced for the amazing quality of food.

This the best value for your fine dinning budget in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. I have been going to L'Orée du Bois for over 15 years and never have I been disappointed. The food is amazing and the service is knowledgeable and friendly. We noticed they are opening a patio this summer. This will be a great addition to this amazingly located restaurant in the heart of the Gatineau Parc un Chelsea. I highly recommend this restaurant!
